Marriage, they say, is the biggest milestone of life's grand journey. For some, it's a quest that's fraught with detours and false starts. Yet, amidst the noise and chaos of the world, I found my beacon of hope, my true love when I was young.
Our story was similar to a fairy tale love story. I am one of those people who experienced love at first sight. When WeiWei first caught my eye, back in 2007, I knew she was the one for me. Even though I was so young and stupid at the time I did my best to make her mine. At the time I did get a chance to marry her but life's circumstances made it so that we couldn't stay together. More lessons needed to be learnt.
we were apart for over 15years, I still didn't give my heart away to any other girls. WeiWei was the only one for me. I just needed to be patient and let time bring us back together again.
Eventually the time did come! And not only did I have the honor of marrying her once, but fate blessed me with the chance to propose to her again—a story that brims with passion and devotion.
Our first meetings after being apart after so many years were magical. When we are together it's like our feeling and emotion is ever-fresh and new. Like no time ever passed. Every time I look at her it's like the feeling of love at first sight again for me. We decided to be be boy-girl friends again, although in the back of my mind I wanted to make the relationship more official.
It took months of meticulous planning, and quest for the ideal moment to whisk her off her feet and declare my unwavering commitment. Finally I felt the time was right, under the wintry sky, during Christmas holidays.
Before the official declaration of my heart, I had been seeking the perfect ring. While in Canada, I delved into countless jewelry stores, pondering the significance of each diamond cut and the depth of our love. My mom helped reassure me, this ring is very important and symbolic. So i should take my time to find the right one. Amidst the glimmering displays, an emerald-cut diamond captured my gaze, surpassing my budget, yet resonating with the essence of the spirit of our love. I knew, without a doubt, that this ring was the vessel for our love—a symbol she would cherish, igniting joy and radiance with each glance. Every time to look at the ring would inspire so much power and remind me how precious our love is.
Fast forward to Christmas 2023, and she's down with a nasty fever. I was nursing her back to health in her apartment in Shenzhen. Our Christmas beach holiday plans? Cancelled! Within the confines of sickness, I vowed to be her steadfast companion, her healer, and her source of comfort. As days passed and she didn't get any healthier, we planned to go to the hospital to investigate more and get to the cause of her sickness. I knew she would be scared at the hospital. There may be moments when she needed strength and I wanted her to have the ring at those moments, to look at it and feel everything would be alright, that the ring had a power to give her energy to overcome the fear of being at the hospital and sick.
I envisioned the perfect scenario to unveil my heart's desire—on the beach, with the sounds of the ocean behind, but I had to let go of that idea and reinvent a realistic way to make the event special and memorable.....Reminiscent of the love letters I used to leave in her pockets years ago...So I took the folded paper heart I made in Canada weeks earlier and tucked into her jeans, written inside the paper heart was the question that would alter our destinies forever.
Then came the moment of truth. it happened at her apartment when we were alone...I put the folded paper heart in the pocket of the jeans she was going to wear that day...later we were going to the hospital and she had already picked out what pants she was going to wear. I didn't exactly know how the proposal would happen or when she would find the note!
But when I noticed she changed her mind to wear other pants, I got nervous! I told her that she looks good in those jeans and want her to wear them and not change!
Luckily around that moment she reached in to the pocket and felt the paper heart inside.
She pulled it out and saw the message written on it.
The pen ink bled through the paper, prematurely revealing my message on the backside of the paper heart! ,"will you marry me?"
As she beheld the heartfelt message, her eyes sparkled, then I presented the ring to her...and asked if she would make me the most happiest guy in the world by saying yes.
With trembling hands, I presented the ring, my soul laid bare, and deeply prayed she would say yes and be happy with me in writing our love story's next chapter.
She immediately hugged me and we laughed!
A moment later, I asked: does this mean 'yes'? Her laugh echoed through the walls, she said: "yes, I do!" And her words sealing our destiny with a promise to stay together, come what may.
